Hauser's Bayfield Cabin has received Travel Wisconsin's Green Certification.

The following is our environmental policy and what we have done to make the cabin environmentally friendly:

Policy: To have low or no impact on the environment, be super energy and water efficient, support and promote local contractors and businesses and charities.

Things we Have Done:

-- Geothermal energy for heating and cooling (remote control to be in place - fall 2012) No need for geo air conditioning in summer with the cross ventilation and trees shading thecabin so we leave the system off during the late spring, summer, and early fall

-- LED under-cabinet lights

-- CFL bulbs in some areas

-- Some lights on motion sensor to conserve energy

-- Use of locally sourced pine

-- Promotion of recycling

-- Use of local contractors and materials for remodeling work

-- Re-use of construction waste to make art

-- Donation of un-used or little used items to the local charity for seniors (CORE)

-- Donation to the "Mass Band" each year for Apple Fest

-- Use of re-fillable shampoo and soap dispensers (permanent ones - fall 2012)

-- Re-usable kitchen utensils and plates

-- Low-e, triple pane, Energy Star efficient windows

-- High R value foam insulation in walls and rim joists

-- Blown in insulation in attic (fall of 2012), and addition of storm doors (fall 2012)

-- Low flow shower head and toilet conservation flush

-- Non-toxic phosphate free biodegradable laundry detergents and cleaning products

-- Eco friendly pet and kid safe pest control

-- Low water use HE washer and Energy Star HE rated dryer (for local cleaning staff)

-- Dehumidifier

-- No CFC's and no VOC paints and finishes

-- Air filter cleaning on regular basis

-- Landscaped with native plants

-- Books about local wildlife provided

-- Encourage local purchase of food

-- Owner drives hybrid energy efficient vehicle

-- The minimal number of brochures used - use recycled paper content

-- "Green" coffee filters

-- Placement of literature in cabin promoting local business in the Bayfield area
